The Passing Lane

"A passing lane is the lane on a multi-lane highway or a motorway closest to the center of the road."
After driving around my "podunk" town for the past week, to and from school & such, I am being to think that many people do not realize what the passing lane is to be used for. Wikipedia clearly states that the passing lane "is the lane closest to the center of the road (or median)."
Wikipedia goes on to explain, "In theory, a passing lane should only be used for passing, thus allowing, even on a road with only two lanes in each direction, motorists to travel at their own pace. Good driving practice is to slip out of the passing lane once slower cars have been passed."
Now you may be thinking yeah sure that's simple; well in that case I have to agree with you. Although, I must ask, is it really that simple?
The concept does seems pretty simple, but if it's really that simple why does it seems as though many people can not grasp the simplicity in this matter? I am not sure.
In a world of such chaos I believe, if we, all college students, soccer moms, business executives and snow birds alike work together to live up to the true definition of a passing lane, the world (and our streets) would be a better and safer place.
In closing, I challenge you all to go out and spread the word of this simple concept.
